Remembering
This site is in remembrance of Brent Rue, the friend, the father, the leader, and most importantly the follower of God. Brent was the founding pastor of the Desert Vineyard Christian Fellowship, a Vineyard conference speaker with John Wimber, the founder of the Ranch School of Ministry, and a passionately intimate follower of Jesus Christ. The two central drives of Brent’s life that shaped his identity and ministry were a tender intimacy with Jesus and a fearless heart of a warrior who saw the Christian life as war. Brent ran his race with the desire to win, but that race was cut short by cancer and ended at the early age of 48. Though he felt like his “seed bag was still half full,” Brent won the prize that he hoped for most, Jesus himself. He finished his race with as much passion and zeal for Jesus as the day he met Christ and walked away from his PhD. from UCLA to follow Jesus with his whole life.
For all those whose lives were impacted through the ministry of Brent, may this site stir to mind the remembrance of Jesus Christ and the unique move of God that was poured out on the Vineyard in its beginnings through people like Brent. Or perhaps more simply, may you remember a friend who enjoyed the fun of life and the love of relationships more than most of us. For those of you who didn’t know him, hopefully you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of the way that God shaped passionate devotion to Christ and a practical theology of ministry in one of the early leaders of the the Vineyard movement. History is an important part of who we are as Christ followers today and remembering what God has done through his servants in the past is a fruitful spiritual discipline for discerning what He might do through us now. This site is not a monument to Brent, but rather a marker of remembrance to God for what He has done in the life and ministry of one of his sons.
On this site you will find Mp3’s of some of Brent’s best messages, videos of his ministry and a video slideshow of his life set to the song that Kevin Prosch wrote for him, interviews, pictures, a history of his life, and a few of his quotes. It’s all as free as the Gospel. Enjoy and may God inspire you through this site.
